FAQ on Acupuncture Treatments

Here you'll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our acupuncture treatments.

What can I expect from an acupuncture treatment?

The Clinique d'acupuncture sociale d'Hochelaga, welcomes you in an open space.

When you arrive, we'll take a few minutes in private to ask you a few questions about the reason for your consultation. You can then settle into one of the available chairs, and we'll begin the treatment.

We first locate the acupuncture points we wish to treat, then disinfect the skin with absorbent cotton and alcohol. The needles we use are sterile and single-use: there is no risk of infection. We leave the needles in place for a period that varies from person to person. If you fall asleep (yes, it happens!), we'll let you enjoy this time of relaxation.

If you'd like us to remove the needles, just make a gesture to attract our attention and we'll come and see you.

After an acupuncture treatment, some people feel tired and "very relaxed", which is a sign that your body has worked well.

Payment according to the fee schedule is made after treatment. A receipt for your insurance will be sent to you by e-mail.

How should I dress for social acupuncture?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing so that we can access your hands and feet, up to the knees and elbows.

What should I wear for private acupuncture?

To ensure a pleasant and effective acupuncture session, we recommend you wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Choose clothes that allow easy access to the areas where the needles will be inserted. For example, short-sleeved clothing or comfortable pants are ideal if needles are to be placed on the arms or legs. Avoid tight-fitting clothes that could make access to treatment areas more difficult. Opt for clothing that allows you to undress only the necessary parts of your body, to minimize the need to undress completely. In short, comfort and practicality should be your main criteria when choosing what to wear before your acupuncture session.

Is acupuncture painful?

When the needles are inserted, it's common to feel a slight pinch, although some people experience no sensation at all. It is also quite normal to feel warmth or tingling within a few minutes of needle insertion. These sensations are temporary and quickly dissipate.

What can acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture can help you in many ways: it can reduce stress levels or anxiety symptoms, speed healing of acute injuries such as sports injuries, and is also effective in treating chronic pain... It can help improve sleep, digestion (notably by treating gastric reflux). It can also be used to prevent the symptoms of seasonal allergies.

In oncology, acupuncture can be used to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy treatments.

In gynecology-obstetrics, acupuncture helps to regulate the menstrual cycle, thus promoting fertility. During pregnancy, acupuncture can help reduce nausea, fatigue, pain and cramps. As the due date approaches, acupuncture can be used to prepare for, or even induce, childbirth.

The NADA protocol (acupuncture on 5 points ade the ear) is used in the treatment of addictions.

The uses and benefits of acupuncture are numerous, and the number of treatments required to treat a condition depends on many factors. We'll be happy to answer any questions you may have during your initial consultation.
