NADA (Auriculo-Solidaire)

Auriculo-Solidaire à la clinique d’acupuncture sociale d’Hochelaga :

NADA treatments are free or voluntary. The Clinique Acupuncture Sociale d'Hochelaga's auriculo-solidaire (NADA) project is supported by the Fondation Québécoise de l’acupuncture and the RRASMQ (Regroupement des ressources alternatives en santé mentale du Québec). You can book an appointment online here or drop in at the clinic to see if we still have space available on Sundays at 6 p.m., Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and Thursdays every other week at 4:30 p.m.

What is the NADA protocol?

The NADA protocol is a comprehensive treatment consisting of 5 acupuncture points in the ears, often used in a group treatment. It works well not only for addiction and mental health problems, but also for catastrophic events and the healing of emotional trauma, promoting dignity, hope and resilience. Developed in the 1970s by New York activists (including the Young Lords and Black Panthers) to help their communities detox from heroin and methadone addiction, it has been adopted to treat all kinds of mental health problems and post-traumatic stress.

Following the events of September 11, 2001, the NADA protocol and its clinical model were used to provide support to people directly or indirectly affected by the tragedy. Twice a week, free NADA clinics were held at S. Vincent Hospital in Manhattan, right next to Ground Zero. Experience has shown that NADA treatments were an appropriate response to the needs of the victims of September 11, 2001. It was as a result of these interventions that the NADA protocol was recognized as a tool for minimizing post-traumatic stress in an emergency response context.

Without the help of our acupuncturist colleagues and various partners in community organizations involved in pilot projects, solidarity acupuncture would not be possible in Quebec. Here is a video presenting several of these solidarity acupuncture projects :
